Rush-Ryan seniors

The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met May 28 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 36 members in attendance. President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business session.Reports were offered by treasurer Shirley Becker and secretary Gloria Gerhard. Birthday wishes were extended to George Carvello. Nancy Messerschmidt donated snacks.The group meets the second and fourth Tuesday of every month at the fire company. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join.Cressona bandThe Cressona Band will appear locally three times in June.The first concert will be held during the Zion's Church Lewistown Valley Old Fashioned Social, from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on June 8.They will also perform at the Tamaqua ABC Hi Rise, 222 E. Broad St., Tamaqua at 7 p.m. on June 19 and is sponsored by Dr. Richard Chwastiak and Shafer's Pharmacy.The third appearance will be from 4-6 p.m. on June 30 at Heisler's Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley. This event is being sponsored by the dairy, the Companion Animal Hospital of Tamaqua and Ron and Connie Glovich.All of the performances will include show tunes, marches, overtures and songs of yesteryear. The public is welcome to attend.Fitness programDiakon Community Services is offering a free exerette fitness program at the Tamaqua Salvation Army. Participants will learn how to enhance their posture, improve their balance and increase their flexibility.The sessions are offered twice weekly, from 9:30- 11 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursday.For more information, contact Dina at (570) 668-0410.Diabetes supportSt. Luke's University Health Network is sponsoring a Diabetes Support Group. Monthly meetings are held in the Miner's Cafe at the health network's Miners Hospital Campus in Coaldale.Each month, a different diabetes relevant topic is explored. Topics are based on ways to improve blood sugar control and quality of life. Meetings are generally 45 minutes long and include a question and answer period.This month's meeting will be held on June 11. Reservations are not required. For more information, call (570) 645-8107.Calvary MethodistLay Leader Terry Gerber will direct the 10:25 a.m. service Sunday in Calvary Evangelical United Methodist Church in the Lewistown Valley. The service will include a presentation by Kean Riegel of Child Evangelism Fellowship. Sunday school for all ages will be held at 9:15 a.m. Also on Sunday, a Bible study, praise and worship session will be held at 6:30 p.m.An hour of praise and prayer will be held at 7 p.m. next Wednesday.St. John UCCSunday worship services are held at 9:30 a.m. in St. John United Church of Christ. The youth group meets at 10:45 a.m. on Sundays.The United Citchen Crew will need volunteers to help with a hoagie sale on June 15. Order deadline is June 12.
