Basketball hoop broken by vandal in Tamaqua

South Ward Playground Association members are asking for any monetary donations from the community after a vandal smashed a basketball hoop with rocks sometime Monday afternoon at the South Ward Playground in Tamaqua.

Both hoops, made of thick clear plastic, were taken down temporarily until the one is fixed and to prevent future vandalism.For more information or to make a donation, call volunteer Lee Calkins at (570) 668-2813.Calkins, who added that each hoop costs $350, said, "Any amount, no matter how small, is greatly appreciated." Anyone with information about the vandal is asked to call Tamaqua Police Department at (570) 668-5000.
