Man jailed for assault on police

A Monroe County man was jailed on Wednesday, May 29, for assaulting police officers.

State police at Lehighton identified the suspect as Andrew Garrison, 32, of 110 Merwinsburg Rd., Effort, Chestnuthill Township.Troopers said about 3:33 p.m. they responded to Garrison's residence to take him into custody relative to a mental health warrant. While attempting to handcuff Garrison, he struck Trooper Urban in the face breaking his nose.Once taken into custody and transported to the hospital, Garrison attempted to bite Trooper Dickson and security officer William Thornton as they attempted to restrain him.Garrison was charged with aggravated assault and related offenses. He was arraigned before a district judge and committed to the county prison in Snydersville after failing to post $250,000 straight cash bail.Urban was treated and released at the hospital, troopers said.
