Tamaqua police file charges against man involved in large confrontation

Tamaqua Police have filed charges against a man allegedly involved in a large confrontation in front of the Family Dollar Store on May 5.

Officers were dispatched to the scene at 9:08 p.m. for a reported fight in progress, possibly involving dozens of people. Patrolman Anthony Stanell responded to the scene and the crowd began to disperse. As Stanell was approaching several people, someone from the crowd yelled out that one of the men was carrying a gun.The officer ordered the man to stop. When the subject failed to respond, the officer yelled that he would deploy the weapon. Just as the Taser deployed, the man turned, drew the gun from his waistband and threw it to the side.The man was identified as Trevor G. Saunders, 18, of Hazleton. The gun he threw turned out to be a bb pistol.Several members of the crowd were questioned and all related the confrontation was just a verbal argument, with no physical contact between any of the parties.Saunders was charged with disorderly conduct.
