Tamaqua and Lansford men among 14 to enter guilty pleas

Tamaqua and Lansford men were among 14 defendants who entered guilty pleas to criminal charges in Schuylkill County court and were sentenced by President Judge Willliam E. Baldwin as follows:

Michael Sean Balogach, 48, of 32 Deer Trail, Nesquehoning, two counts of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol, sentenced to serve six days to six months in the county prison beginning Saturday, Aug. 3, at 9 a.m., fined $2,000, pay $600 to Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $100 to MCARE fund, $100 to Criminal Justice Enhancement Account (CJEA) fund, $60 to Saint Luke's Hospital, complete alcohol highway safety school, undergo outpatient treatment, and perform 20 hours of community service. Balogach was first cited by Tamaqua Patrolman Thomas Rodgers, last June 12, and by West Penn Township Patrolman Glenn R. Laningen, last Nov. 22.Jesse Andrew Walker, 32, of 2 W. Kline Avenue, Lansford, formerly of Lehighton, gave false information in attempting to purchase a firearm from Ed's Sports Shop, Tamaqua, placed on probation 23 months, pay and $50 to CJEA fund. Walker was cited by Trooper Melissa Kyper.Kyle Jeffrey Shirey, 26, Schuylkil Haven, formerly of Tamaqua, two counts of theft, placed on probation 24 months, pay $100 to CJEA fund, make restitution of $200 to Weis Markets, and $95 to Boscov's Store, Pottsville.John Bruce Cool, Edwardsville, formerly of Hollywood Boulevard, Hazle Township, Luzerne County, DUI of alcohol, placed on probation six months, fined $300, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to MCARE fund, $50 to CJEA fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center (SMC), attend safety school, and perform 10 hours community service. Cool was cited by McAdoo Patrolman Steven Homanko.Sean Thomas Cooper, two counts of DUI of alcohol, sentenced to serve six days to six months in the county prison begining Tuesday, May 28, at 9 a.m., fined $1,000, pay $300 to SAE fund, $50 to MCARE fund, $50 to CJEA fund, $60 to SMC, attend safety school, and peform 20 hours community service. Cooper was first cited by Butler Township Patrolman Danielle Mowery, last June 30; and by Minersville Patrolman Jason A. Klouser, last Dec. 8.David O. Murphy, 54, Pine Grove, DUI of alcohol, sentenced to serve 90 days to five years in the county prison beginning Tuesday, May 28, at 9 a.m., fined $1,500, pay $300 to SAE fund, $100 to MCARE fund,$50 to CJEA fund, $60 to SMC, attend safety school, and perform 40 hours community service.On a charge of driving an unregistered vehicle was fined $75, failing to have a driver's license, $200, and failing to carry car insurance, $300 plus $150 in costs. Murphy was cited by Trooper Stephen Kleeman after his vehicle knocked over a mailbox on Oak Grove Road in Pine Grove Township, and struck a utility pole and rolled over.Edward Joseph Stine, Spring Street, Branch Township, possession of drug paraphernalia, placed on probation 12 months, pay $100 to SAE fund, and $50 to CJEA fund. Stine was cited by Trooper Vincent LaSelva, Jr.Benjamin Isaac Delong, 20, Schuylkill Haven, theft of scrap metal and possession of a small amount of marijuana, placed on probation for 24 months, and pay $100 to SAE fund. He was cited by Schuylkill Haven police.Clair Walter Kramer, 19, Donaldson, Tremont Township, theft of equipment belonging to Kenneth Richter from abandoned coal mine in Frailey Township, sentenced to serve three to 12 months in the county prison with the sentence to begin Saturday, June 1, at 5 p.m., is eligible to participate in the work release program, and make restitution of $25,000 to the victim.Jordan Taylor Hauptly, 21, Pottsville, two counts of burglary and one count of theft, sentenced to serve three to 17 1/2 months in the county prison. On a DUI of drugs sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months to begin at the expiration of the first sentence.On the DUI charge he also must pay a fine of $1,000, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to MCARE fund, $50 to CJEA fund, attend safety school, receive outpatient treatment, and perform 10 hours community service. For burglary of Towne Drugs Store, Pottsville, must make restitution of $5,238; burglary of Walmart Store, Saint Clair, make restitution of $2,401.36; and theft from Bower's Motor Supply Store, New Philadelphia, make restitution of $25.Amanda L. Riegel, 29, Mount Carmel, passed two bad checks to A&A Auto Supply Store, Schuylkill Mall, was given crecit for serving three days in the county prison and released on parole 18 months, perform 15 hours of community service, and make restitution of $300.33 to the store. Riegel was cited by New Castle Township Patrolman Ronald E. Romanchick.Barbara Parenzan, 45, Schuylkill Haven, simple assault on Judy Creitz, Deer Lake, placed on probation 12 months, and pay $50 to CJEA fund. Parenzan was cited by Trooper John B. Carr.William Joseph Kramer, 30. Williamstown, Dauphin County, two counts of simple trespass on private property in Eldred Township, was fined $200 plus costs. He was cited by Trooper Chad Smith.Thomas J. Elliott, 46, Schuylkill Haven, pleaded nolo contendre (no defense) to disorderly conduct in the D&D Bar, Schuylkill Haven, was fined $300 and costs. He was cited by Patrolman Vincent J. McDonald.Each defendant must pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
