Saying goodbye to Indian Chief

Residents at the ABC High Rise will be losing a long time mascot in the next week or so as state Department of Transportation contractors start construction on the new Route 209 bridge. Residents say the tree, located to the southwest of the bridge, and given the name Indian Chief, has provided them laughter and shade since it was planted over 30 years ago. The tree and an adjacent shrub tree have to be cut down so crews can access the west side of the bridge from street level. ABC High Rise residents Agnes Hydro, left, and Mary Becker hug their mascot tree.
