Animal carcasses continue to turn up at a recreational facility in Palmerton's west end.
Councilwoman Holly Sell informed Borough Council on Thursday of the situation that currently exists at the West End Recreation Area.Sell said the matter has resulted in "ongoing problems.""There's gun shots going on, dead animals being found there," Sell said. "The police have been informed, and the Game Commission has also been informed.""They need help finding out who is responsible for this," Sell said. "If they're [witnesses] seeing something, they need to call police, or call our office."Birds and squirrels were among the dead animals Sell said she was aware of."Also, shell casings and shot targets have been found around the property at the West End Ball field," she said. "In the past, gun shots have been heard during PTAA usage of field."In other business, council:• Announced that there will be a bid opening at 2 p.m. Tuesday, June 25, for the sale of the borough dump truck.• Approved former wastewater treatment plant employee Albert Koch's pension benefit calculation. Koch, who retired March 29 after serving for over 20 years as a borough employee, will receive a monthly check in the amount of $1,359, though his first check will be $1,447.• Approved a request from Crusaders For A Cause to hold their annual spring carnival May 16-19, 2014, in the borough park.
