Franklin Township supervisors on Tuesday night awarded the bid for seal coating on various roads in the township to Asphalt Maintenance Solutions, Center Valley, at a cost of $44,956.01. Martin Paving of Lititz offered a bid of $51,854.74 and Dosch King Emulsions of Whippany, N.J., bid $52,083.18.

Roads selected for seal coating are Indian Hill Road and Overlook Drive.Supervisors also accepted the lone bidder Lehigh Asphalt and Paving to provide road materials for township roads.Supervisors also adopted a resolution authorizing Robin Cressley, road foreman, to sign and submit a Pennsylvania Department of Transportation application for changes to the traffic light at the intersection of routes 248 and 209.Rod Green, chairman, said that PennDOT will be adding more cameras to the area at no cost to the township.Supervisors also approved authorization to Attorney William Schwab to take action as outlined in a confidential meno to the board concerning National General Properties litigation. The Pure Beauty Salon operates in the National General Properties site, which is located in the former Techna Graphics building on Route 209, Interchange Road.Two weeks ago the Joint Uniform Construction Code Appeals Board, which is comprised of representatives of 10 local Carbon County municipalities, met to hear an appeal from Pam Flutegate, owner of The Pure Beauty Lounge, 450 Interchange Road, Lehighton. The board sustained the appeal in part and denied in part.The board ruled that Flutegate must apply for permits and pay the required application fee, plus apply for a PennDOT Highway Occupancy Permit.Flutegate has 30 days after receiving the written ruling to appeal and 60 days to comply with the ruling.The Pure Beauty Lounge opened in December 2010. The Pure Beauty Spa advertises that it is a full service salon and spa offering the best personal care and comfort to its clients.Supervisors appointed Lonnie Kresge as an alternate member to the Joint Uniform Construction Code Appeals Board and approved police officer Frank Lorah's request to attend taser recertification class.The board also approved hiring three summer workers, Levi Haldeman, James Markley and Michael Kelowitz.Green noted that the work staff is short-handed and that the summer workers are needed to fill in.The board also approved Franklin Township Special Fire Police to assist at Franklin Township Lions Club events, Spring Fling, June 16; and Picnic in the Park, Sept. 15.
