Several races for council, tax collector for area boroughs

Area boroughs will be nominating candidates for offices of mayor, tax collector, and council in the Municipal Primary Election to be held Tuesday, May 21.

There are council contests on the Democratic ballot in McAdoo, Middleport, and Coaldale; and on the Republican ballot in Tamaqua. There is also a contest for tax collector on the Republican ballot in Tamaqua.Also to be nominated are officers who run the voter polling places. To be nominated are a judge of election and an inspector. In the fall election a judge of election is elected and two inspectors, majority and minority. The candidate with the highest vote becomes the majorty inspector and second highest the minority.There are also empty spaces on the ballot where no candidates have filed and can be filled by writein votes. Writein candidates must obtain 10 signatures to have their names placed on the ballot for the general election.Seeking nominations for various local offices in area boroughs are the following:TamaquaIn Tamaqua there is a race for the Republican nomination for tax collector. Seeking the parties' nod are Dale W. Freudenberger and Pamela J. McCullion.
