Bunker Hill clean up slated on Saturday

Last Saturday, a clean-up crew made up of volunteers from the Lehighton Area Democratic Club, The Carbon County Labor Chapter and volunteers worked on cleaning up the historic site at Bunker Hill Cemetery and loaded four dump trucks with debris.

But there is more to do.This Saturday, May 18, volunteers are invited to help continue the effort to bring the Bunker Hill Cemetery back to a condition befitting the last resting place of Col. Jacob Weiss, Revolutionary War veteran and founder of the Borough of Weissport. Volunteers will be working between the hours of 9 a.m.-3 p.m. A pizza lunch will be provided. Wear gloves,comfortable clothes, sturdy shoes and bring chain saws, saws, axes and wheelbarrows.Franklin Twp. has kindly offered to take away debris.For more information, call Terry Whiteman, President of the Carbon County Labor Chapter at (610) 379-0162.
