Last year, the Department of Environmental Protection voiced its concerns regarding some issues at the Fourth Hollow Dam in Nesquehoning. DEP requested that a televised inspection of the area be performed to view the extent of damage to the structure.

During the monthly meeting of the Nesquehoning Water Authority Monday evening, members voted to address some of the problems that were found.After requesting quotes from three companies with experience in this type of work, engineer Ron Tirpak recommended that the authority would move to begin repairs on the most serious issues.Authority members voted to hire Mar-Allen Concrete Products, Inc. to begin sealing cracks and removing stalactite buildup and any deteriorated concrete in certain areas and to completely seal a "fairly serious crack" at the outlet culvert.Since the work will come in under $18,900, the authority is not required to send the project out to bid.The water authority plans to make the rest of the necessary repairs to the area some time next spring.In other matters, authority members approved a change order to the water tank project that resulted in a $550 credit on the project and also voted to issue a payment to the contractor in the amount of $114,641.55 for work completed thus far.Supervisor Mark Lopata announced that he was looking to flush hydrants on Monday.
