Field trip shows students how to become fly fishermen

Field trip 'reel' fun for students

Students from Lehighton Area Middle School Fly Fishing Club recently enjoyed a field trip to Baer Memorial Park in Lehighton to learn more about one of their favorite pastimes - and, hopefully, more."The purpose of the field trip was to introduce the kids to fly fishing and to allow the kids to test their skills learned practicing in the parking lot on a stream," said LAMS teacher and club advisor Mark Maholick.LAMS guidance counselor Michael Snyder assisted Maholick on the field trip.According to Maholick and Snyder, by learning a lifelong activity such as fly fishing, the students acquire a skill that will teach them patience, preparation, and stream entomology."Kids that are involved are kids that are successful," concluded Maholick. For more information about all that is going on throughout Lehighton Area School District, visit
