Retail theft arrests

Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on several retail theft arrests.

On Wednesday, May 8, officers were dispatched to the Walmart store in Mount Pocono about 6:38 p.m. for a retail theft report. Police were told two suspects ran out the front of the store with stolen merchandise and descriptions of the two were given. Police made contact with one of the males, Stefano Torres, 20, of Henryville, who ran to the McDonald's restaurant in the Kmart plaza.Torres told police his vehicle was stolen which was later proven to be false, when the second suspect, Timothy Stossel, 21, also of Henryville, and described as a friend of Torres, was caught.The investigation led to the arrest of Torres for false reports, unsworn falsification, retail theft, and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft. Torres was placed in the county prison pending arraignment.Stossel was charged with retail theft and criminal conspiracy to commit retail theft.Police added that it was learned that both Stossell and Torres are criminal justice majors at a local college and recently wrote a thesis paper on deviant behavior and how shoplifting affects society. The thesis paper was found inside a book bag along with sotlen merchandise.Also on May 8, about 11:30 a.m., officers were called to the Kmart store in Mount Pocono for two adults in custody for retail theft. On scene officers found Kassi Lynn Mullin, 18, and Joseph Brandon Bernek, 21, both of Henryville.The two were charged with taking $234 in merchandise from the store without paying for it. Both were possessed and later released on unsecured bail.
