Dogs of all types converged at Locust Lake State Park in Barnesville over the weekend during the second annual Bark For Life event held to benefit the American Cancer Society.

The event, organized by young volunteer Tyler Resch, consisted of a dog walk, cancer survivor ceremony, sled team display, obedience show, dog kissing and talent contest. The event also featured a special search and rescue presentation by the Berks County's Search and Rescue Emergency Strike Team."This walk provides a great opportunity to have fun, meet new friends and join with your K-9 family members in support of our upcoming Relay for Life," said Resch, wo also serves as the Relay activities chairman."The event gives dog lovers a chance to become involved in raising funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life of Tamaqua and surrounding areas, which is set for June 21 and 22 at the Panther Valley Football stadium."Remember. Fight Back." Many of the research advances for human cancer funded by the American Cancer Society are used to treat dogs with cancer as well.All the proceeds went to the Relay for Life of Tamaqua and surrounding areas."Everybody had a great time during the event," said Caylan Chanwik, Income Development Representative, East Central Division, American Cancer Society.Resch and family members expressed their appreciation to all the dog lovers, volunteers and special guests who helped put this event together.
