May 3, 1960 Lafay Hope wins two individual events and accounts for a victory in one of the relays to lead Tamaqua's track team to a sweep of Schuylkill Haven and Ashland. Hope breaks the tape in the mile, setting a new school record with a time of 4:39.2, and claims the 880. He also receives the final handoff of the mile relay trailing and overtakes his opponent for the win. The Raiders, coached by Harry Fetterman, also receive firsts from Ron Gerber (180 hurdles), George Barron (shot put), Earl Hinkle (discus), Dale Titus (javelin) and Dave Wehr (high jump).
