Crashes probed

State police at Lehighton reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers.

At 6:30 p.m. on April 24 a crash occurred along SR209, near Smith Drive, in Polk Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Marilyn A. Leap, 59, of Lehighton, was driving a 2009 Volkswagen Beetle southbound when the car left the road on the west side and struck a utility pole. After impact the pole was sheared and the car spun counter-clockwise about 10 feet where it came to rest.Leap was injured and treated at the scene by West End ambulance personnel. The car had to be towed from the scene. Electrical service was interrupted in the area.Polk and Towamensing townships fire companies responded to the scene.Troopers cited Leap for driving on roadways laned for traffic.A crash occurred about 9:40 p.m. on April 18 along Fireline Road, near Manor Drive, in Lower Towamensing Township. Troopers said Lauryn Ashley Solt, 18, of Bowmanstown, was northbound when she lost control of her vehicle that then crashed, troopers said.Solt sustained minor injuries and was treated at the Palmerton hospital. The vehicle was towed from the scene.Troopers said a Palmerton woman is facing a hit and run charge. Becky S. Altemose, was driving a 1997 Plymouth Stratus southbound on Little Gap Road, Aquashicola, Lower Towamensing Township, about 7:26 p.m. on April 24 when the car left the road and struck several rocks. Altemose attempted to flee the scene and drive home, troopers said. The investigation is continuing.Troopers are investigating another hit and run. A 2004 Ford van struck the Covered Bridge Inn, located in Lower Towamensing Township, and the driver fled the scene. The incident occurred about 10:10 p .m. on April 28.Troopers said the owner and driver are known and charges are pending.
