Salaries for the police chief, road foreman, and labor gang were approved by Mauch Chunk Township supervisors. The bi-weekly salary of Harold Billig, the chief of police, rose from $150 to $165. The road foreman's pay increased from $167.50 to $185. The hourly rate for laborers was increased from $1.40 to $1.50. The supervisors also said West Garibaldi Avenue in New Columbus will be black-topped within the next two weeks now that residents have installed curbing.
