Nursing home homicide

An elderly Weatherwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center resident died from a head injury after being pushed, according to the Luzerne County Coroner's office.

Margaret Lechleitner, 85, died at Hazleton General Hospital six hours after she fell when she was pushed at the nursing home in Weatherly on April 20.Acting coroner William Lisman determined the manner of death to be homicide; the cause was a subdural hematoma, or bleeding in the brain.Weatherly police, along with the Carbon County District Attorney's Office, are investigating the death.Weatherly Police Sgt. Michael Bogart said early Thursday that he cannot comment on the matter because it is still an open investigation.Efforts to reach Carbon County District Attorney Gary Dobias were unsuccessful early Thursday.A telephone call to Weatherwood owner Guardian Elder Care of Brockway, Jefferson County, was not immediately returned.
