Genther candidate for re-election to Panther Valley School Board

Irene Genther is a candidate for re-election to the Panther Valley School Board.

She was born and raised at 117 W. Ridge St., Lansford, daughter of Dr. John and Anna Dubosky Breslin.She is a resident of Nesquehoning for the past 33 years.She attended St. Ann's Elementary School, Lansford Junior and Senior High schools. She received a B.S. in chemistry and biology at Moravian College and received a Graduate School certification for teaching, education from Rowan University, N.J.She has been employed as a medical technologist at West Jersey Hospital, Camden, N.J. and Riley County Hospital, Manhattan, Kansas. She has also been employed as a chemistry teacher for 25 years at Cherry Hill East High School, Cherry Hill, N.J.She has Lifetime Certification as a water safety swimming instructor at the American Red Cross, where she has served for 45 years.She was a member of the PTA in Collingswood, N.J. for 40 years.She has served on the Board of Education at Collingswood, N.J. for four terms, where she was the first female president of the board. She had served on all committees and the Committee of Whole.She is a member of Action for a Clean Environment (ACE), which fights against the dumping of sludge from Philadelphia into the Springdale Pit.She is also a member of Fight for Solution of Cause of Polycythmia and other blood cancers prevalent in our tricounty area; and is a member of the Citizen Advisory Committee to Panther Creek Cogeneration Plant in Hauto Valley.She has served on the Panther Valley School Board for four years, serving as chairman of the finance committee; and is a member of the Education Committee and Policy Committee.Her platform for re-election is to continue the effort for education excellence; continue to watch over spending, especially this year with Carbon County tax increase of 48 percent; and continue the fight against nepotism.
