Carbon County Safety Day this Sat.

This year's Carbon County Community Safety Day (formerly the Fun-N-Safety Day) will take place on Saturday at Mauch Chunk Lake Park from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. The event will be held rain or shine.

The popular Fun-N-Safety Fair was previously held on Fifth Street in Jim Thorpe, attracting hundreds of children each year. This year's program at Mauch Chunk Lake Park will feature 25 agencies offering various safety events with children and youth, demonstrations in water safety (including water rescue activities), 14 fire companies and first responders, and the Penn Star helicopter. The coconut crusher will also return to demonstrate bicycle helmet safety.Agencies present will include AmeriHealth NE, Pennsylvania State Police, SHINE, Blue Mountain Health System, St. Luke's University Miners campus, PA Bureau of Forestry, Jim Thorpe Police, Carbon County CERT, CART, Rep. Doyle Hefley, Anthracite Region Center for Independent Living, Carbon Monroe Pike Drugs & Alcohol, Pathstone Head Start, Bo Tkack Foundation, Lehighton Crime Watch, the Nolan Ritchie foundation and the Carbon County Environmental Center.The annual event has grown significantly in size since past years and is now jointly hosted by Safe Kids of Carbon County, the Mason Lodge #242, and the Carbon County Commissioners partnered with Senator John Yudichak. New partners on the planning committee include park rangers, Carbon County Emergency Management Association (EMA), Pennsylvania Fish and Boat Commission and the Carbon County Sheriff's Office.Free hot dogs and drinks will be provided.
