Weaving their message through Tapestry A Women's Ministry

When one thinks of a tapestry, we think of textile art woven on a loom. We've seen them hang in museums. They once graced castle walls as decorations and to ward off drafts.

Today there is another kind of tapestry making an impact in our communities. Tapestry A Women's Ministry at Pleasant Valley Assembly of God is "Women woven together by the love of Jesus and the power of the Holy Spirit to accomplish God's purposes for such a time as this."Patti Carver, the mother-in-law of Tapestry's committee member, Kelly Carver, and mother of the church's pastor, the Rev. Scott Carver, was the guest speaker at the April gathering. Her topic was "Being Tailor Made: Fashioned with Purpose."She held up a piece of material and told the guests that we all started out like that piece of material, still in its raw state. She then pointed to a mannequin that was replete in a beautiful dress with jacket and embellishments."And after all we experience in this world, we become complete. Custom made, tailor made, fashioned for God's purpose," she said. She offered several quotes from the Bible, going back often to Isaiah 49 where it says, "He called me before my birth; from within the womb he called me by name" meaning God knows us before we are born and we are all born with a purpose. It was Ephesians 2:10 that truly speaks to this concept: "For we are God's masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago."The Tapestry ministry offers women a chance to explore their faith journey through praise song, inspirational messages and the offer of fellowship and friendship every six weeks. The next gathering will be on Monday, May 20 at 7 p.m. and all are welcome to join them. Find them on Facebook: Tapestry a Women's Ministry.
