Thorpe man jailed for assault

A Jim Thorpe man was jailed on Tuesday, April 23, following an incident at his residence.

Borough police were dispatched about 6:35 p.m. to 10 W. Sixth St., for a report of an assault. On scene police observed Charles W. Wiley, 29, of that address, yelling and screaming at his girlfriend, Sammi Jo Green, and his mother, Carol Wiley.Wiley was also yelling and screaming profanities in public. Police said he was manifestly under the influence of alcohol and was placed under arrest.Police said Green told them she and Wiley were arguing when he kicked a plastic chair at her, striking her on the left side of the head and in the area of her ear. Police noted Green's ear to be red and slightly swollen.Police said Wiley was arraigned before District Judge Edward Lewis, of Jim Thorpe, on charges of simple assault, a misdemeanor two, and summary counts of harassment, disorderly conduct, and public drunkenness.Wiley was committed to the county prison in Nesquehoning after failing to post 10 percent of $10,000 bail.
