Monroe man jailed for armed robbery

A Monroe County man was arrested on Monday charged with the armed robbery of a pharmacy that occurred on Friday, April 19.

Pocono Mountain Regional police said Edward R. Warfield, 36, of Analomink, was arrested about 6:30 p.m. at police headquarters after he was interviewed in connection with the robbery that occurred about 12:09 p.m. Friday at the Blakeslee Pharmacy, located along SR940, in Blakeslee.Police said Warfield was charged with robbery, theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property, terroristic threats, simple assault, possessing an instrument of crime, and possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.He was lodged in the county prison in Snydersville in lieu of bail following arraignment.According to police a male entered the pharmacy brandishing a silver in color handgun. Employees told police that the male was wearing a ski mask and dressed in all black at the time.The suspect demanded that the employees give him all the items in a safe, meaning prescription medications. The male became impatient and told the employee who was getting the items she was not moving fast enough and he began to take pills himself filling a bin that he had brought with him. He then fled on foot. Police said the three employees present all feared for their lives.Taken were about 8,000 prescription pills that have a street value of $180,000, police said.During the investigation employees told detectives about an individual that came to the pharmacy earlier on Friday. He was identified as Warfield and that he was there two hours earlier to fill a prescription. The pharmacy declined to fill the prescription. They also told detectives that the robber fit the same build as Warfield.Warfield was then interviewed.
