Members of the Palmerton Area Historical Society were discussing ways to display the more than 100 hats that were donated for exhibition. The grand opening will be May 5, 1-4 p.m., with Janet Grove and Dale Freudenberger on hand to talk about their hat collections. The members began setting up the exhibit on April 19.
A few are obviously old and some are in new condition. They range from a feathered woman's hat to a cowboy hat to a Davy Crockett hat from the 1940s..Jane Borbe brought hat stands from her great Aunt Martha Snyder's hat shop in Slatington, Martha's Hat Shop. She lived in Bowmanstown and took the train to Slatington. Borbe said her husband shot a pheasant and Martha made a hat for her with the feathers.The exhibit will up until some time in August.

One of Helen's fondest memories was snuggling up to the coat when she and her mother, Pauline Siska, were in church The knee-length coat has a frog closing at the neck.
