Local youngsters danced, sang, and played their way into the hearts of residents at The Summit at Blue Mountain Health System during a talent show inspired by a 6-year-old's desire to give back.

When Max Fitzpatrick, 6, visited the nursing and rehabilitation center last month with his Cub Scout troop, he enjoyed the visit so much that he asked his mother if they could return this time not just to visit, but to play for the residents."He said, 'I'd really like to play my drums for them,'" said Katya Fitzpatrick, Max's mother. "I was very excited that my son wanted to give back. I thought it was so sweet."Katya and Max contacted The Summit and asked for permission to coordinate a small talent show.Once they had approval from the staff, they began asking Max's friends if they would like to take part. Max had recently taken part in a talent show at his school, Ss. Peter and Paul in Lehighton, and many of his friends were eager for a chance to reprise their talents.Nearly two dozen students from Ss. Peter and Paul and St. Joseph Regional Academy took part in the talent show, from preschool to seventh grade.The students shared a wide variety of talent acts, including singing, dancing, and performing on musical instruments."This was a wonderful way for students to give back to the community, and hopefully to put a smile on the residents' faces," added Katya. "They were very excited to perform."
