Hat donations for May exhibit at Heritage Center reach saturation point

A request for donations is seldom as successful as the request by the Palmerton Area Historical Society when it requested hats for display. Betsy Burnhauser said anyone planning to loan a hat should do so quickly because they are reaching a saturation point. Jane Borbe should be informed if you have a hat to exhibit.

The grand opening of the exhibit will be May 5, from 1-4 p.m. Jane Grove and Dale Freudenberger will be presenting at that time. There are still openings for the May 13 trip to Asa Packer Mansion in Jim Thorpe. Admission will be $7 payable to the historical society.A second video on the presidents' First Ladies was shown. To highlight the important features of each lady, Burnhauser provided study sheets, and also provided them for the first group of ladies. That video had been viewed two months ago.Abigail, the wife of Millard Fillmore was the only one of the First Ladies to hold a job after marriage. Julia Tyler was the first prominent woman to pose for a commercial on the streets of New York. Margaret Taylor followed her military husband as he moved from post to post on the frontier. She had her daughter perform the social duties of the First Lady. Many of the men who became president had a long political life before they became president.
