Monroe man facing charges

On Tuesday, April 9 at approximately 2:15 p.m., officers from the Pocono Mountain Regional Police investigated the death of an adult female (41) at 123 Stillwater Drive in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County. The investigation involved Christopher Cleary, 30, of Pocono Summit, who was identified as the decedent's fiance.

The police were contacted by a witness who stated that she had information about the investigation and was in possession of the decedent's cellular phone. The witness agreed to meet with the police at Schoch's Sunoco in Snydersville and surrender the cell phone. At approximately 10 p.m., the witness called 911 emergency to report that she had been threatened by Cleary. The witness reported that Cleary told her that he would kill her if she gave the phone to the police.On Thursday, April 11, at about 11 a.m., police arrested Cleary without incident at Pocono Mountain Regional Police headquarters. Cleary was charged with intimidation of witnesses or victims, criminal attempt to tamper with or fabricate physical evidence, and obstructing or impeding justice.Cleary was arraigned before District Judge Richard Claypool. Bail was set at $100,000 and a preliminary hearing was scheduled for April 18 at 10 a.m. After the arraignment Cleary became unruly and had to be restrained. Cleary will be charged with disorderly conduct for disrupting the court. Cleary was lodged at the Monroe County Correctional Facility in lieu of bail.
