Man injured after falling from coal digger

Emergency personnel responded yesterday morning to the BET mines in Coaldale after a worker suffered a concussion after falling from one level of a large coal digger to a lower level. Firefighters said that rescuers used a metal stretcher to safely remove Louie Mitchalk of Summit Hill from the digger. Assisting were Tamaqua and Coaldale firefighters, Lehighton and Lansford ambulances and others. "I want to say thank you to my dad, my uncle Joe Michalk and John Hadesty for staying with me till the ambulance got to me," said Mitchalk on Facebook. In his post, he also gave appreciations to firefighters, ambulance crews, "boys from the 40 house" and everyone involved. A BET worker stands at the mine's Panther Drive entrance in Coaldale.
