Schuylkill crashes

State police at Schuylkill Haven were kept busy on Tuesday and Wednesday this week with four crashes occurring on Schuylkill County roads.

A one vehilce crash occurred about 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the parking lot of Big Lots store, in Tremont Township. Troopers said a 2007 Volvo truck was legally parked near a loading dock. While the driver, Slawomir K. Szwajka, 28, of Garden City, Mich., was out of the vehicle, it started to move south. It continued to travel south through the lot until it struck a curb. It then traveled over the curb and hit an embankment where it came to rest.No injuries were reported but the truck had to be towed.Another one vehicle crash occurred about 1:13 p.m. Tuesday along SR443 (Deturksville Road), in Washington Township. Troopers said Marian I. Mease, 87, of Pine Grove, was driving a 1992 Ford Crown Victoria westbound and crested a hill when the car crossed into the eastbound lane. It then hit the guard rail along the berm, re-entered the eastbound lane and crossed back to the westbound lane.At this point the car struck a ditch off the westbound shoulder where it came to rest. Mease was not injured but the car had to be towed from the scene. She was cited for driving on roadways laned for traffic.A third one vehicle crash was reported on Tuesday about 1:54 p.m. along SR183 (Pottsville Street), in Cressona. Troopers said Jermaine T. Barlow, 21, of Schuylkill Haven, was driving a 1993 Chevrolet Cavalier southbound nearing the intersection wih Tioga St., when he fell asleep. The car crossed into the northbound lane and onto the sidewalk where it struck a utility pole.After hitting the pole the car came to final rest in the middle of the roadway facing east.Barlow sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville. The car sustained significant damages, troopers noted.Barlow was cited for careless driving.A two vehicle crash occurred about 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday along SR443 (Long Run Road), in Wayne Township. Troopers said Kelsie N. Blankenhorn, 20, of Schuylkill Haven, driving a 2005 Dodge Neon, was stopped in the eastbound lane waiting for a vehicle in front to turn left. Her car was struck in the rear by a 2006 Dodge Stratus operated by a 17-year-old male from Auburn, who was also eastbound and failed to see the stopped vehicle.No one was injured. The Stratus had to be towed from the scene while the Neon sustained minor damages.Troopers cited the teen driver for driving a vehicle at an (un) safe speed.
