The March meeting of the Tamaqua Board of Health took place at the Tamaqua Municipal Building with Randolph Gormley, Earl Boettger, James Gormley, Shirley Becker, health officer Judith Hadesty R.N and health enforcement officer Joshua Esposito in attendance.Esposito reported issuing two health licenses. An additional 11 inspections were conducted, but failed, and an additional 13 passed inspections but property owners have yet to pay the license fees. Seven businesses, with seasonal hours, remain to be inspected.Complaints made and adjusted included: one leaking sewer; two buildings condemned as unfit for human habitation; four dog waste; and 11 for trash.There were no cases of reportable diseases for the month.The board meets the first Wednesday of each month, at 10 a.m., in the Tamaqua Municipal Building, 320 E. Broad St., Tamaqua.Meals on WheelsThe Tamaqua Area Meals on Wheels organization is in need of volunteers to help deliver meals to the infirm. All it would take is one hour per week, although anyone who can donate more than one hour is more than welcome.For more information, or to volunteer, call (570) 668-6954.Senior citizensThe Tamaqua Senior Citizens group met April 4 at the Masonic Lodge in Hometown, with Vice President Nancy Gerber conducting the business session. Jacquie Patrick provided the invocation, entitled "No Loafs, Just Fishes."The meeting included a celebration of members' February and March birthdays, complete with cake and ice cream. Paul Davis was added to the sick list. Margie Skymba, Norma Lee Berk and Grace Moser were welcomed back to the group. The annual picnic will be held Aug. 15.Before the meeting, Susan Conor of Schuylkill County Senior Services presented an in-service program, providing information on volunteer programs. Those in need of volunteers include RSVP, Meals on Wheels, hospice and literacy.The meeting concluded with cards and social games.The seniors meet at 1 p.m. every Thursday, at the Masonic Lodge, located on SR54 (East) in Hometown.Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.SS. Peter and PaulThe Holy Name Society of St. Peter and Paul Catholic Church will meet at 8 p.m. this Thursday. The meeting will be preceded by a 7:30 p.m. Mass.St. Peter's UnionThe Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 9 a.m. worship services this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. The service will include a Joyous Noise Offering. The Sunday school class will meet at 10:15 a.m.Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at 11:30 a.m., Daisies, Brownies and Cub Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.Activities for next week include: Tuesday, Women Association of St. Peter's; Thursday, prayer group meets at 4:45 p.m.The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: cherubs at 6:30 p.m., juniors at 6 p.m., seniors at 7:30 p.m.
