Towamensing Township supervisors voted at their April 4 meeting to advertise for a person to do maintenance at four sites owned by the township: the rec fields, municipal area, Forest Inn and the Greenzweig School site. The latter may be done by volunteers.

Steve Parisi wanted to move forward with his plan for a state police barracks, but supervisors refused to consider it until he pays outstanding professional fees.Don Lane Campground has 20 sites and wants to put in a large holding tank rather than a septic system. Guy Seibert said supervisors have to talk to the sewage enforcement officer before they can make a decision.Resident Mark Zettlemoyer wants a portion of Old Forest Street abandoned but supervisors have not been willing to do so. Seifert made a motion to "not abandon the street." It passed.Seifert said the recreation commission needs to find more suitable spots for the light poles at the fields. They have run into the covered-over garbage leaving a substrata that will not support the poles. Seifert said someone should give him a call and they'd discuss it further.Bids were opened for road materials and a garbage disposal site such as a landfill or transfer station. Both were tabled until Tuesday, 7 a.m.The name of Chestnut Drive was changed to Sycamore Drive. A resolution is being prepared to make the change.A letter was received from resident Roy Christman thanking the township for continuing its recycling efforts. It said in part, "It's difficult if you abandon recycling to restart it again."Spring cleanup will be held April 13-14, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Accepted will be electronics including televisions as well as all large household items that are no longer being picked up on the weekly collections. There is a cost for tires and items with Freon. People will be on hand to help.Charles Laviolette, Palmerton Area Library representative, said coming events include a photography show on April 14. There will be a bookmark contest for kids in celebration of National Library Week. Roger Latzgo will perform free of charge at 2 p.m., April 21.
