An Academic Summer School schedule was set by the Schuylkill Intermediate Unit 29 School Board at its monthly meeting held Monday evening at the Maple Avenue Campus, near Marlin, Norwegian Township.

The registration deadline is Thursday, June 13, at 3 p.m. The school starts Monday, June 24, and ends Mionday, June 29. All classes will be online and available to students in grades seven to 12. The cost will be $150 by course if a person registers by June 13, and $165 on June 14.Registration can be completed online, forms can be downloaded at

www.iu29.or for further instructions.Doreen Milot, Academic Summer School Coordinator, advises students enrolled in the summer school must be active learners, complete the required assignments according to the timeline established by the instructor and follow the acceptable use policy and program procedures.She added that the summer school provides a remediation for students who failed courses during the school year and is an enrichment for students who want to get a head start on classes for the following school year.Other businessPayments were approved to four school districts for instructional services and supplies utilized in February in the after school program.Payments made were as follows: $3,816.74 to Minersville Area; $1,141.52 to Pottsville Area; $8,404.19 to North Schuylkill; and $5,474.38 to Willilams Valley.Resignations were accepted of the following:Terri Pflueger, full-time corrections education specialist; Sharon Roberts, full-time bus driver; Charlotte Shields, full-time teacher aide in the Saint Clair Hearing Impaired Classroom; Kathleen Wowak, full-time teacher at Maple Avenue Campus; Carol McDonald, full-time speech therapist; Marian Jones, clerical aide and key coper operator; Carol Rennick, full-time teacher aide at Maple Avenue Campus; Christine Dasey, full-time teacher aide at Maple Avenue Campus; Heather Carvajal, part-time teacher aide at Pine Grove Area; Allie Krisa, full-time nurse at Maple Avenue Campus, Jacqueline Toomey, part-time teacher aide in the Early Intervention Program; and Michelle Chicora, nurse aide instructor.The board was informed Betty Rada, secretary to the superintendent of Special Education and Vocational Education, is retiring at the end of the work day on June 28.The board is seeking to hire a seasonal summer maintenance staff to complete indoor and outdoor tasks effective June 3 through about Aug. 16.Hired were Heather Bondura, Minersville, as a part-time aide in Pine Grove Area at $8.75 per hour; Allie Krisa, Pottsville, and Elizabeth Guldin, Frackville, as a substitute nurses at $19.65 per hour.An agreement was entered with Gaudenzia, Fountain Springs, Butler Township, to establish working procedures for the provision of special education services to eligible children served by Gaudenzia for a two year period ending April 8, 2015.Approved was an agreement with Hazleton Area School District in the amount of $1,004.70 for the provision of Title 1 service to children who attend non-public schools in Schuylkill County and reside within the Hazleton Areas School District boundary for the current year.Academic awardsSchuylkill County Superintendents, High School Principals, Penn State Schuylkill, and Lebanon Valley Colege, will recognize students for academic excellence at the 30th annual Schuylkill County Academic Achievement Awards Program which will be held at the Pottsville Club on Tuesday, May 31, with a breakfast buffet beginning at 8 a.m. and the program at 9 a.m. Each public and nonpublic high school is invited to select six "Schuylkill Scholars" who will be recognized for academic excellence.The votech schools acknowleged the receipt of 40 laminated counter tops from the Federal Corrections Facility located near Minersville for training and completion of interior finish program of study tasks in the carpentry program.A skid of tile with value of $902.52 from the CoroTech Company, Grand Rapids, Mich., was received for use in the masonry program.The board is seeking bids for flooring replacement on the first floor at the South Technical School Campus.An agreement of cooperation was entered with Tremont Health and Rabilitation Center effective May 1 for the practical nursing program to receive clinical experience.
