Mahoning approves police car repairs

Officer in Charge Audie Mertz reported the unmarked police car needed some repairs that were over the limit he was able to spend without board approval . The board approved the $1,050 repairs for the car on a 4-0 vote with Supervisor Todd Weaver absent.

"Car 32 is the oldest car in the fleet right now and needs two ball joints and a sway bar replaced as well as an oil change and tire rotation," said Mertz. He told supervisors if they approved the repairs, Lehighton Ford would be able to have the work completed if the parts arrive promptly by Tuesday afternoon.Mertz also informed the board he had not yet heard from Kovatch's about the new police car that is expected to be delivered soon. Originally he thought it might be delivered this week, but without hearing from them yet, he guessed it could be a little longer and didn't expect it this week.He added that the phone lines were separated recently and the new garage now has its own line. The number for the Mahoning Township Roads Department is now (570) 818-4348 and there is a voice mail system in place as well.
