Motorist involved in head-on crash while DUI gets jail term

A motorist involved in a head-on crash near Sheppton, North Union Township, while driving under the influence (DUI) drew a jail sentence. He was one of 12 defendants who entered guilty pleas to criminal charges and were sentenced by President Judge William E. Baldwin in Schuylkill County court.

Michael Charles Kelchner, 28, Fern Glen, pleaded to aggravated assault while DUI of alcohol, and sentenced to serve eight to 23 months in the county prison with the sentence to begin Wednesday, March 27, at 9 a.m.He was also fined $1,000, pay $300 to Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $50 to MCARE fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center (SMC)-South, attend safety school, receive outpatient treatment and perform 30 hours of community service.According to the police report filed to court Kelchner was involved in a two car head-on collision on SR924, one mile north of Sheppton in East Union Township on March 2, 2012. He also must make restitution of $4,094.30 to William Michael. Ketchner was cited by Trooper Matthew Barrett.John S. Ennis, 39, Ashland, DUI of alcohol, placed in the Intermediate Punishment Program (IPP) to serve six months on probation, fined $300, pay $100 to SAE fund, $100 to Catastrophe fund, attend safety school, receive intensive outpatient substance abuse treatment, perform 20 hours of community service, driver's license suspended 12 months and when restored must install an ignition interlock device on the steering wheel of his car for 12 months which monitors consumption of alcohol by the driver. On a summary charge of failing to drive in the right lane was fined $25 plus $50 costs. Ennis was cited by Butler Township Patrolman Raymond Horan.Michael John Moyer, 30, Ringtown, resisting arrest, simple assault, and disorderly conduct, sentenced to serve six to 23 months in the county prison and is eligible to participate in the work release program, and pay $50 to CJEA. Moyer was cited by Ringtown Patrolman Adam Bernodin Jr.Sherlyn Jean Durham, 48, Tower City, DUI of alcohol and drugs, placed in the IPP for six months, fined $1,000, pay $100 to SAE fund, attend safety school, receive outpatient substance abuse treatment, perform 10 hours community service, and license suspended 12 months. On summary charges of violating no passing zone, failing to drive on roadway laned for traffic and failing to drive at safe speed was fined $25 each plus $150 in fines. Durham was cited by Trooper George Shimko when stopped on East Grand Avenue in Porter Township.Steven John Brilla, 19, Pottsville, DUI of alcohol as a minor, placed in IPP on probation for six months, fined $500, pay $100 to SAE fund, $50 to Catastrophe fund, $60 to SMC-South, attend safety school, perform 10 hours community service, and license suspended 12 months. Brilla was cited by Minersville Patrolman Jason A. Klouser.Leroy John Manhart Jr., 43, Ashland, trespassing on property at 139 W. Chester St., Ashland, belonging to Rebecca Klinger, was fined $25 and costs. He was cited by Patrolman Daniel Weikel III.Randal Lamar Fisk, 26, Minersville, two counts of DUI of drugs, sentenced to serve six days to 12 months in the county prison, fined $2,000, pay $200 to SAE fund, $100 to MCARE fund, $920 to SMC-South, attend safety school, receive outpatient treatment, perform 20 hours community service, and license suspended for two years. On summary charge of careless driving was fined $25 plus $50 costs.Benjamin Paul Kline, 26, Saint Clair, possession of a controlled substance, placed on probation 12 months, pay $100 to SAE fund, and $50 to CJEA.
