A motorist involved in a head-on crash near Sheppton, North Union Township, while driving under the influence (DUI) drew a jail sentence. He was one of 12 defendants who entered guilty pleas to criminal charges and were sentenced by President Judge William E. Baldwin in Schuylkill County court.

Michael Charles Kelchner, 28, Fern Glen, pleaded to aggravated assault while DUI of alcohol, and sentenced to serve eight to 23 months in the county prison with the sentence to begin Wednesday, March 27, at 9 a.m.He was also fined $1,000, pay $300 to Substance Abuse Education (SAE) fund, $50 to MCARE fund, $60 to Schuylkill Medical Center (SMC)-South, attend safety school, receive outpatient treatment and perform 30 hours of community service.According to the police report filed to court Kelchner was involved in a two car head-on collision on SR924, one mile north of Sheppton in East Union Township on March 2, 2012.
