Ryan's Oil & Heat clinches top seed for postseason

The Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission (ESRC) winter basketball league concluded its regular season on Wednesday evening, as defending League Champion Ryan's Oil & Heating earned the top overall seed for playoffs by winning it's last six games of the season, en route to a 6-1 record.

Mike Stower Coal & Oil-Vesuvio'sIn one of the most exciting finishes this season, Vesuvio's clinched a first round bye in next week's playoffs with a 70-68 victory over Mike Stower Coal & Oil.With Vesuvio's leading 68-66, Eric Dion tied the game up at 68-68 with two clutch free throws with three seconds left. Vesuvio's then inbounded the ball under its own basket and Mark Scarcella heaved up an off-balance desperation game-winning shot just inside the three-point arc as time expired.Scarcella finished with 14 points and four three-pointers, while Dan Maguschak tallied 18 points and four treys to lead Vesuvio's. Carlos Rivas also scored 14 points, while Naveen Mohuiddin tacked on 12.For Mike Stower Coal & Oil, Jon Veet scored a game-high 29 points with seven three pointers (six of which came in the first half, as he helped his team erase an early 17-3 deficit). Ethan Eichorst and Brandon DeCosmo also scored 13 points apiece.Joey B's/Joe's Place-Ryan's Oil & HeatingDefending League Champion Ryan's Oil & Heating earned the top overall seed for playoffs with a 61-45 victory over Joey B's/Joe's Place. After losing its first game of the season, Ryan's has now rolled to six consecutive victories.Joe Schaeffer buried six three-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points to pace Ryan's Oil & Heating.
