A fiery fatality

One man is dead following a two-vehicle collision last night involving a car and tractor-trailer along Summer Valley Road (SR895) near Keim Street, in East Brunswick Township, Schuylkill County. State police at Frackville said the collision, which occurred just after 9 p.m. just east of the New Ringgold border, resulted in both vehicles catching fire.

State police said the driver of a white 2008 Volkswagen sedan was killed. The name of the victim is being withheld pending positive identification, troopers said.Troopers identified the driver of the 2007 International tractor, towing a 2006 Wabash trailer, as Fidelix Iyoha, 59, of Grand Prairie, Texas. Troopers reported that Iyoha complained of pain in an arm but refused medical treatment.State police added that the sedan was eastbound when it left its lane of travel and entered the westbound lane. At this point, the car was struck by the tractor with the front bumper of the two vehicles colliding in the westbound lane. After impact the car began to spin counter-clockwise. The rig continued west after impact and it began to spin counter-clockwise. The rig traveled into the eastbound lane and struck guide rails located on the south side of the road with the passenger's side front.The rig came to rest in the eastbound lane facing south against the guide rail. The sedan came to rest in the eastbound lane facing north. Both vehicles caught fire at some point, troopers noted, and both sustained severe damages.Witnesses and neighbors stated that flames rose almost 20 feet into the air. Firefighters on scene said they had to deal with two explosions while battling the blaze, adding that the tires were exploding too.The road was closed for more than six hours while state troopers with Troop L reconstruction team investigated the scene and vehicles were removed. Also on scene were West Penn Township police, fire companies from New Ringgold, Walker Township, West Penn and Orwigsburg, and ambulances from Penn Mahoning and Pottsville.The body was transported from the scene by deputy coroner David Truscowsky. A preliminary cause of death was multiple blunt force trauma, troopers said.The investigation into the crash is continuing, troopers noted.
