Northern Lehigh graduate Kris Krawchuk concluded an outstanding season for the Wilkes University wrestling team as national runner-up at 157-pounds at the NCAA Championships over the weeked at the Cedar Rapids Ice Arena in Iowa.. Krawchuk fell 3-0 to unseeded Devin Biscaha of Springfield in the final.
Krawchuk finishes his junior year with a 29-4 overall mark after being ranked in the top five nationally throughout the entire 2012-13 campaign for the Colonels.After a scoreless first period, Krawchuk began the second period on the top position maintaining riding time for 1:10 before Biscaha used a reversal to take a 2-0 lead with :20 left.Krawchuk started the third period down 2-0 and chose the down position looking for an escape. The two wrestled to a stalemate for most of the third as Biscaha forward rolled with each Krawchuk potential escape/reversal. Biscaha added a minute of riding time as the third period clock expired for the 3-0 win.Krawchuk wasted little time in reaching the national finals pinning eighth-seeded Cade Sarbacker in 4:58 in the semifinals. Sarbacker, who entered the match unbeaten at 12-0, reached the semis with an upset of top-seed Elias Larson of Trine with a 6-5 decision in the quarterfinals.
