A Schuylkill County driver fled the scene of a one-vehicle crash early Thursday morning and is now facing a charge of driving under the influence (DUI).

State police at Schuylkill Haven said Kelly Wensel, 42, of Pottsville, was driving a 1995 Jeep Cherokee westbound on Wade Road in New Castle Township, about 12:20 a.m. when she lost control. The Jeep traveled onto the north berm and impacted with a utility pole causing the pole to sheer off. The Jeep continued along the berm and eventually came to rest after striking a wooden privacy fence.Wensel then fled the scene on foot but was located a short time later. She was found to be under the influence and failed field sobriety tests. She was then transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville, for a blood test. The DUI charge is pending the test results, troopers added.The Jeep had to be towed from the scene.
