Two Pleasant Valley students, Wayne Fabian and Matt Barshak, attended the 250th Anniversary committee meeting for Chestnuthill Township on Feb. 21. They asked if they would be learning the history of Brodheadsville.

Committee President Norman Burger said a book is being published which will have many stories about different aspects of that history.In addition to their questions, the students made some suggestions and offered to volunteer for the event.Barry Dawson offered to help in any way possible, and said he has the facilities to reach residents of the four townships that make up the original Chestnuthill.The West End Fairgrounds has been reserved for Sept. 6-8 for a parade and day of activities and concerts for the celebration. Many of the activities will be old-fashioned games.Music scheduled is Duane and Lisa Hawk and the swing band of Jim Spinola, Riverside Rhythm.The parade should form at 9:30 a.m. for a 10 a.m. start. Gates will open at 8 a.m. The parade will remain in the area of the fairgrounds. It will have divisions for walkers, vehicles including emergency vehicles and antiques, horses and more. Horses can be stalled overnight at the fairground stalls. Permits are still needed for parading on the roads.Friday and Sunday will be primarily for set up and tear down.It is expected food vendors will be on hand before lunch until 6 p.m.In other business: The first logo contest entry has been received. Additional stories for the book are about the baseball league, 1780s militia and log cabins.Chestnuthill will be represented at the West End Firemen's carnival in July and at other community events.Political dignitaries will be contacted asking them to attend and perhaps speak.A Lenape artifacts collection containing arrowheads, scrapers and spears is on display at the Western Pocono Library.At Polk Elementary School there is a display of household goods which will rotate with the other schools with a display of tools and implements and carpentry tools.A third-grade presentation will cover life in 1900 or earlier and schools in the same time period. Volunteers in period costume would be appreciated to participate in these presentations.On April 30 the same presentations will move to Pleasant Valley Elementary.A representative from an insurance company will attend the March meeting to discuss liability insurance. That meeting is March 21, 7 p.m., at the Chestnuthill Township building.
