A Summit Hill woman has been charged in connection with an accident that occurred about 8:25 a.m. on Feb. 7 at a bus stop in the borough.

Three individuals - two elementary students and a man - were allegedly struck by a car at the bus stop.The students, two sisters, are ages 7 and 8. The eight-year-old reportedly was seriously hurt, allegedly having been dragged 25 feet, nine inches by the car. She had been flown to Lehigh Valley Hospital Center in Salisbury Township, but has since been discharged.Maxine A. Royer, 53, of 44 W. Walter St., faces charges of:• Three counts of simple assault, misdemeanors.• Recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor.• Stop signs and yield signs, a summary.• Driving vehicle at safe speed, a summary.• Careless driving, a summary.• Meeting or overtaking a school bus, a summary.The accident occurred on Market Street near the intersection of Hazard Street, across from the Summit Hill Post Office.The affidavit filed by Summit Hill Chief of Police Joseph Fittos Jr. alleges that Royer was traveling at "a higher than reasonable rate of speed blowing her horn," that she drove around a vehicle that was unloading a child, that she failed to stop at a stop sign, and that she passed a bus that was loading and had its red signals flashing and side stop signal arms activated.While this occurred, Royer's car reportedly struck the eight-year-old girl. After dragging the child nearly 26 feet, Royer then backed up her car to free the child and when doing so, ran over the younger sister's foot, the affidavit says.Also, she allegedly struck Brian Newton, who had attempted to get her to stop.Fittos said in the affidavit that he interviewed her on the day of the accident and she "denied responsibility for the above allegations."The charges were filed before District Judge Casimir Kosciolek of Lansford.A hearing for Royer before Kosciolek is scheduled for 1:15 p.m. on March 20.
