Clay Andrews of Penn Forest Road had asked Towamensing Township supervisors to place a Children at Play or speed limit sign on Penn Forest Road. He came to the Feb. 7 meeting to ask if any action was taken.

There had been a question about whether it was a state road, but the section where he wanted the sign was a township road. He agreed with the supervisors that the Children at Play sign might be more effective so that will be placed.In other business:*Lakeview Estates renewed its letter of credit reducing the amount from $600,000 to $349,000.* The township is looking into the possibility of having either LaFarge or Allentown Cement pick up tires at the township building by leaving a trailer for township residents to drop them off. The fee has not yet been determined at this time.Supervisor Penny Kleintop said if something can be worked out, it will keep tires from being dumped in fields, as the electronic collection does with those items.* Carl Faust was appointed code enforcement officer.* A workshop has been scheduled for Feb. 18, 6:30 p.m., to complete negotiations for the turnover of the Greenzweig School to the Towamensing Historical Commission. A drawing to be reviewed will include 50 square rods and has been staked by Surveyor Rudy Wolfe. The land will be leased.The group reorganized with Karl Rolappe as president, Mary Beth Beers as secretary and Lora Nothstein as treasurer.*The roadmaster's report included working on Forest Street, plowing snow and working on the recycling program.Supervisor Tom Newman said it is inconsiderate and thoughtless of people to put out garbage bags heavier than 50 pounds or more bags than the permissible number. In the future overweight bags will not be picked up.He said, "Show a little respect for people doing the work." The collectors have said there is a certain garbage can that is easier to empty. The township may make them available for people who need to purchase new cans.* Supervisor Guy Seifert said the township now has a Facebook page at towamensingtownship.* Palmerton Library representative Charles Laviolette thanked the supervisors for a $4,000 check and for including the fundraising letter with the garbage bills.
