Drug arrest reported in Monroe

Pocono Mountain Regional Police reported the arrest of a New York resident for drug charges following a vehicle stop which produced a large quantity of illegal substances.

Police said about 12:13 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 2, they stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation at SR940 and Summit Drive, in Tobyhanna. A further investigation led to police conducting a search of the vehicle.A narcotics K9 unit was brought to the scene and alerted officers to a duffel bag which was located on the passenger floor. The bag was found to contain a large amount of bulk narcotics including about 100 bags of heroin, 150 ecstacy pills, and powder cocaine.The narcotics were packaged and wrapped in fabric softener in an attempt to conceal the odor, police said. The drugs have an estimated street value of $8,000.Police said Renier Gil, 20, of New York City, was placed under arrest and charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and other drug related charges.
