A Weatherly man was killed when his vehicle left State Route 93 at the top of the Broad Mountain in Nesquehoning and crashed into a tree on Monday afternoon.

Police said Justin Foley, 32, of 425 Carbon St., was southbound operating a sport utility vehicle (SUV) on the Broad Mountain when he reportedly attempted to pass two other vehicles, but lost control. The crash occurred about 1 p.m.Chief of Police Sean Smith said Foley's vehicle left the left side of the roadway and struck a tree. Police added that the road was slushy and wet at the time of the crash.Foley was pronounced dead at the scene by Carbon County Coroner Bruce Nalesnik and Deputy Coroner Robert Miller.The road was closed between Brenkman Drive/Quakake Road and SR209 in Nesquehoning for several hours.Borough police were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Nesquehoning and Weatherly fire companies, Nesquehoning ambulance, and Weatherly police and fire police.Foley was alone at the time of the accident.
