Crashes probed

State police at Lehighton reported on two crashes probed by troopers.

A one vehicle crash was reported about 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 26, along Meixell Valley Road, in Ross Township, Monroe County.Troopers said Amanda J. Goody, 16, of Brodheadsville, was driving a 2008 Ford Focus eastbound when she lost control of the car. The car crossed the center line and rotated counter-clockwise. The car then struck an embankment on the north side of the road, continued to rotate, and then struck the embankment a second time.After the second impact th car continued rotating counter-clockwise, traveled down the south side of the road and struck some trees, and came to rest facing southwest about 20-feet south of the road.Goody sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Pocono Medical Center, East Stroudsburg, by West End ambulance. Her passenger, Elsie V. Howell, 16, of Bangor, was not injured.Goody was cited for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.The second crash occurred about 8:30 a.m. on Jan. 18 at the intersection of Lower Smith Gap and Covered Bridge roads, in Lower Towamensing Township, Carbon County. Troopers said Sherry Baumgartner, 52, of Kunkletown, driving a 2007 Honda Odyssey, attempted a left turn onto Covered Bridge Road from Lower Smith Gap Road and pulled in front of a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis driven westbound by Althea M. Haydt, 82, of Kunkletown.Both drivers were injured and taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, by Palmerton ambulance, troopers said.
