Championship match for local pro wrestler A. J. 'Tony' Petrucci

A. J. "Tony" Petrucci is hoping to make one more mark in professional wrestling.

The 61-year-old Jim Thorpe resident is teaming with an old friend in a pro grappling card tonight in the Philadelphia area and they hope to win the "world tag team championship."He and Doug Stahl of Hagerstown, Md. are teaming as "The Super Destroyers."They will be opposing the present tag team champions, The American Roughnecks, comprised of the Rockin' Rebel and Frankie Starz.The event is being held at 7:30 p.m. at Doc Diamond's Devastation University Pro-Wrestling Training/Loco Academy Sportsplex, 1331 O'Reilly Dr., Feasterville.Petrucci, who starred in the World Wrestling Federation (now WWE) in the 1980s, Extreme Championship Wrestling, and several other wrestling organizations, has held the tag team championship on numerous occasion as a member of the Super Destroyers.What makes the Feasterville event special to him is that a lot of legends in the sport will be at the show.Among those stars are Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka, "The Unpredictable" Johnny Rodz, Davey O'Hannon, former WWE superstar Sal Sincere, WWWF sensation Manny Soto, ECW superstar Rockin' Rebel, as well as Pete Sanchez and "Pretty Boy" Larry Sharpe, who both starred in the WWF and American Wrestling Alliance, the latter whose bouts are shown on ESPN Classic.Another bout besides the tag team championship event is "Southern Justice" Dalton James, who is seven-feet tall, and Owen O'Neil against Xaviar Cross and Drew Blood.Petrucci has wrestled some of the biggest names in pro wrestling, including Hillbilly Jim, B. Brian Blair, Greg "The Hammer" Valentine, "Rowdy" Roddy Piper, and Junkyard Dog.He is the son of Irene (Snsky) Petrucci of Jim Thorpe and the late Anthony Petrucci.He was a trainer of former WWE superstar Gene Snitsky."I want to bring the tag team championship home to Jim Thorpe," Petrucci said.
