January 17, 1964 Jack Kmetz explodes for 33 points, including a 17-of-24 effort at the free throw line, to help Jim Thorpe gain a 70-65 Black Diamond League win over Lansford. The Olympians, coached by Tony Romano, trail by 10 points early in the second half before beginning their rally. Fred Bresswein, who finishes the contest with 15 points, ties the game with a basket and puts Thorpe ahead for good with a tip-in. The winners also receive 13 points from Billy Maehrer. For the Panthers, Ed Sabol nets a team-high 22 points.
