Member of Carbon drug ring sentenced

A member of a drug ring, which operated in Carbon County, was sentenced in federal court on Wednesday to three years in prison.

Imani Simelani, 30, of Allentown, had pleaded guilty to conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine.Simelani admitted his part in a drug ring that operated in Carbon County in 2006 and 2007. He was one of 11 people indicted in 2007 following an investigation by the FBI and state police. The 10 others in the case also pleaded guilty.In addition to the jail term U.S. Judge James M. Munley, of Scranton, also ordered Simelani to serve four years of supervised release and pay a fine of $500.According to investigators, the ring would purchase illegal drugs from suppliers in the Allentown area then go to Carbon County and sell the drugs.
