Freez'n for a reason

While many people think of a "Polar Bear Plunge" as being a New Year's Day event, such an event will be held this upcoming weekend to benefit Special Olympics PA.

The 2013 Lehigh Valley Polar Bear Plunge will be held along the Delaware River in Easton this Saturday, Jan. 19 from 9 a.m. to 1:30 p.m..The Polar Plunge is a unique opportunity to support local Special Olympics athletes by running and jumping into icy cold waters.Plunge participants take a quick dip in the river to raise funds for thousands of children and adults with intellectual disabilities.Special Olympians develop and improve physical fitness and a more positive self image as a result of receiving year-round training and competition programs at no cost to themselves or their families.Since jumping into a freezing river is not for everyone, some participants can choose to register for the event as "too chicken to plunge".For additional information about the Lehigh Valley Polar Bear Plunge, check out their website at
