Water tank project in motion

During the regular monthly meeting of the Nesquehoning Water Authority, James J. Rhodes, Jr. of Alfred Benesch and Co., gave authority members an update on the water tank project.

A prebid meeting was held on Jan. 10 and 24 bid sets have gone out to contractors. Rhoades also clarified some questions that bidders had for the authority with regard to the bid package specifications.Bids for the water tank project will be opened on Jan. 28 at 3:30 p.m.In other matters, borough engineer Ron Tirpak reported on a leak that was found in an outlet pipe that was "spitting out water at a pretty good rate" along with several other locations that "aren't as bad." Tirpak stated that the authority may have to "start spending a little money out there on that reservoir."Tirpak also stated that he still has been unable to find a contractor to X-ray the rebar as previously requested by DEP.Supervisor Mark Lopata announced that the new FCC mandated control system radios had been installed and are working.Authority members also gave final approval of the 2012 audit.
