Arnold Souders, a Parryville councilman, resigned when his motion to hire Chief of Police LaMar Haupt, his grandson, met with defeat. Haupt was serving a 90-day probationary period as police chief, which had expired. Souders and councilman William Drumheller cast their votes in favor of retaining Haupt. Voting against his retention were councilmen Burton Wentz, James Bonser, and president LaMarr Houser After the balloting, Souders gave his resignation and Haupt turned in his badge and weapon.
